Fondée en juillet 1925 sous le nom de Western Air Express, elle fusionna avec Transcontinental Air Transport en 1930 pour former Transcontinental and Western Air (TWA). TWA fut la première compagnie aérienne à offrir un sercice reliant côte est et côte ouest des USA. Elle fut également la première à offir ce service sans escale. Le nom actuel fur officialement adopté en 1950. En 1986, TWA acquit Ozark Airlines. TWA est actuellement sur le point d'être absorbée par American Airlines.

Founded in July 1925 as Western Air Express, which merged with Transcontinental Air Transport in 1930 to form Transcontinental and Western air (TWA). TWA was the first airline to fly US coast-to-coast services and the first to offer this service non-stop. The present title was officially adopted in 1950. In 1986, TWA acquirend Ozark Airlines. TWA is now on the way to be absorbed by American Airlines.
